Blaydon Burn Nature Reserve
Once the heart of the industrial revolution in Gateshead, Blaydon Burn is a wonderful example of what happens when industry moves away and nature returns. Over one mile long and covering over 100ha of woodland, grassland and wetland, Blaydon Burn is an unique nature reserve where wildlife co-exisits in one of the region's most important sites for industrial technology.
A free leaflet showing an easy two and a quarter mile walk is available from Thornley Woodlands Centre and Gateshead libraries. You can also
download the leaflet [1.33MB].
There are many access points including a small informal car park opposite the end of the housing at Summerhill, NE21 4JS, and near the Black Bull pub at Bridge Street, Blaydon-on-Tyne, NE21 4JB.
