Personal Care Assistant jobs (direct payments)

Any Gateshead resident who is eligible for a direct payment personal care budget can choose to employ their own Personal Assistant to help with their day-to-day care. For some, this gives them control of how they spend their care budget in a way that supports their independence. 

Personal Assistants play a valuable role. All Personal Assistants are employed directly by the individual and therefore the roles can be very varied depending on their individual need. Personal Assistants roles can include tasks such as:

  • general care and support
  • support with social support and activities
  • domestic support
  • helping with personal care
  • meal preparation

These are paid employment roles. They could be part time or full time and may require flexible hours as each role is tailored to the individual. The pay per hour is above minimum wage. If training is required, as part of the role, then this can be arranged.

Support Worker

Female support worker - permanent

Job title: Support Worker

Hours: 8 per week (can be split over 2 or 3 sessions)

Rate of Pay: £9.76 per hour

Area: Gateshead

A permanent female support worker is required to engage with a young lady with aspects of social and leisure activities such as trips out and about, walking, shopping, Cooking, Baking the list is not exhaustive. If you are caring, friendly and reliable you may be the right person for this role.

The job role:

To be based from the family home and will support a young lady to access a social life/skills in and outside of the home, you will also be require to enable this young lady to uses public transport to get around the local area, Car user not essential however if you use your own vehicle an allowance will be paid, you must have your own business car insurance.

Essential skills:

  • Experience of working with/associating or socialising with people with learning disabilities.
  • To be able to show dignity and respect to the person you are working with.
  • Be caring, cheerful, friendly, and sociable.
  • Reliable, trustworthy and a good timekeeper.
  • To be a good role model and be able to encourage personal development and independence.
  • Respectful and fully understand the necessity for confidentiality

Desired skills:

  • Have a positive 'can do' attitude.
  • Are motivated, imaginative, open minded, have empathy with and a positive attitude towards people with disabilities.
  • To be fully committed to your role.
