Bulky waste
Bulky household waste collection is a chargeable service when you have rubbish that is too big for your bin.
Giving away furniture and other items is better for the environment than disposing of them. Items in good condition can be reused or repurposed. Find out more ways to reduce and reuse.
Items for collection should be placed as close to the edge of your property as possible on your collection day.

Collection information
Collection dates can vary but are usually between 2 and 10 working days. During bank holidays, this could be longer due to staff leave. Please take this into consideration when requesting a collection.
Collections take place between the hours of 7.30am and 3.30pm. On your collection date all items must be placed outside as close to the edge of your property as possible by 7.30am. You must ensure that the items are easily accessible and are not obstructed by or containing items you have not asked us to collect. Items, especially textiles or mattresses, should be kept dry.
Please note that items due for collection must not be placed outside the boundary of the property before 7:30am on the day of your collection. Items left at any other times will be considered as fly tipping and enforcement action will be taken.
If any of these conditions are not met, another chargeable collection will apply.
If we can't collect your items due to circumstances beyond our control we will contact you to rearrange your collection.
Please note, we do not collect loose waste such as garden waste or rubble, this needs to be bundled or bagged.
Changing or cancelling a bulky household waste collection
Any changes or cancellations must be made before 12 noon the working day before the collection. Refunds will not be given after this time.
The quickest way to cancel or change your collection is by following the link in your confirmation email, or you can call 0191 433 7000.
Inside collections
Inside collections are only available to residents who are unable to move items outdoors. To enquire about booking an indoor collection, please call our customers services team on 0191 433 7000.
Collections can take place anytime between 7.30am and 3.30pm on your collection date, and you must be available to give our collection team access to the property during this time.
We will not accept responsibility for any damage caused during the removal of items where customers have not taken reasonable steps to protect the property. You should cover carpets and place items for collection in a convenient location near an external exit, away from other furniture, fixtures and fittings.
Clearances from residential properties
If you can not find items on our bulky waste collection form, or you are unable to itemise what needs collecting, you can request a clearance quote. There is a £30 charge for a supervisor to visit and provide a quote, which will be deducted from the collection cost.

Household waste and recycling centres
We have two household waste and recycling centres where you can take a variety of waste and recycling items which are open seven days a week.
Other waste collection services
You must dispose of your waste properly. If you choose to use a privately operated waste collection service, you must ensure that the person or company is an authorised waste carrier. You should ask to see the waste carrier licence - this is the size of a credit card and will show their registration number, starting 'CBDU' followed by a number. You should also make sure that a waste transfer note is obtained and kept when the waste is collected.
You can check that a person or company holds an upper tier waste carrier licence on the Environment Agency website (opens new window).
