Household waste bin
Your household waste bin is collected fortnightly. Use the bin checker to find your next collection date.
Bins should be put out by 7.30am on your collection day and taken in the same day.
What can I put in my household waste bin?
Your household bin is for household and food waste, and items which cannot be recycled or put in your garden waste bin.
The bin should not be so full that the lid won't fully close, or too heavy as the vehicle has a weight sensor which will not allow a heavy bin to be emptied.
Please do not put batteries in your household waste bin. They can cause fires and need to be disposed of in dedicated battery recycling bins or in the correct containers at our HWRCs.
What if my bin is not big enough?
If extra bags of rubbish that will not fit into your bin, do not put this out next to your wheeled bin as it will not be taken. Instead:
- check if it can be recycled in your blue recycling bin (or communal recycling facilities) or taken to a recycling bank
- take the rubbish to one of our Household Waste and Recycling Centres. You do not need a permit if you are going to the site in a family car, MPV or estate car without a trailer
- arrange a bulky household waste collection (charges apply for this service)
What if I can't manage to move my bin?
We understand that some people are not able to move their bins to the collection area. Find out about requesting an assisted bin collection.
