British Citizenship Ceremonies - COVID-19
We have received the following information from the Citizenship Ceremonies Support Team Nationality Group at the Home Office:
UKVI have extended the period that citizens are expected to book their citizenship ceremony from 3 months to 6 months. This period will be kept under constant review.
UKVI advise that no adverse decisions will be made on applications because of delays caused by Covid-19.
Becoming a British citizen is a significant event. We make sure the ceremonies are an enjoyable welcome to the local community and a chance to meet other people who are also becoming British citizens.
You and your guests will be invited to attend the ceremony. The ceremony is held as a group although it is possible to arrange a private ceremony for a fee. During the ceremony you will be required to:
- swear on oath or affirmation
- pledge loyalty to the UK
- sign the Gateshead Citizenship register
A Gateshead dignitary will present you with a gift and citizenship pack, containing your citizenship certificate.
What to bring to the ceremony
When you attend the ceremony you will need to bring your invitation letter with you.
