Citizenship

Becoming a British citizen is a significant event. We make sure the ceremonies are an enjoyable welcome to the local community and a chance to meet other people who are also becoming British citizens.

The ceremony

You and your guests will be invited to attend the ceremony. The ceremony is held as a group although it is possible to arrange a private ceremony for a fee. During the ceremony you will be required to:

• swear on oath or affirmation
• pledge loyalty to the UK
• sign the Gateshead Citizenship register

A Gateshead dignitary will present you with a gift and citizenship pack, containing your citizenship certificate.

What to bring to the ceremony

When you attend the ceremony you will need to bring your invitation letter with you.
