Integration Station: Empowering New and Emerging Communities

Between 2022 - 2025, Integration Station successfully delivered a range of weekly youth activities, including a youth club, music sessions, and football training. These activities have significantly improved young people's sense of safety and belonging in Gateshead. Engagement levels have risen steadily, particularly among those who were previously disengaged from local services and opportunities. Importantly, several young participants have gone on to volunteer with smaller refugee-supporting organisations, further contributing to their communities and developing leadership skills.
From 2025 - 2026, they plan to build on this foundation. They plan to continue running core weekly activities and welcome both returning and new participants. In addition, they are expanding their programme to include:
- Coding training sessions to introduce young people to digital skills and future career pathways
- Duke of Edinburgh Award activities to promote personal development, teamwork, and resilience
- Music gigs in partnership with The Sound Room, providing performance opportunities to build confidence and creativity
- Gardening and environmental project in collaboration with Hope Without Borders, where young people will engage in hands-on work on two secured plots of land, learning about sustainability and teamwork
They aim to achieve increased engagement, greater youth volunteering, and a more active role for young people in shaping their communities.
