Children North East: Gateshead Marginalised Groups Support'

Children North East logo

Over the previous year, Children North East established a popular and well attended Neuro Peer Support group for young people aged 16 to 25 living in Gateshead who are neurodivergent.

The group meet every Monday at Felling Family Hub and provides a welcoming space for young people to make friends and try out new things. The group members decide on what they're going to do, and this has included setting up a podcast, playing (and designing) table top games, trying out badminton and more recently taking a trip to the ice skating rink in Whitley Bay.

A highlight of their year was winning an award at Children North East's Voices of Hope awards.

Recently, they set up a Table Top Role Play group (similar to Dungeons and Dragons) which runs on a Tuesday evening at the Metrocentre Community Hub. This group has an ongoing role-play campaign facilitated by a Project Co-ordinator/Games Master and is currently at capacity.

Plans for 2025/26:

Children North East are setting up an extra Neuro Peer Support group for young people aged 11 - 15 living in Gateshead who are neurodivergent, following the same successful model. They aim to explore setting up a second Table Top Role Play group if there is demand. The existing Neuro Peer Support group is building on its success and is currently planning more activities and trips with its members.
