Verges
The majority of grass verges next to roads are within the public highway and come under our responsibility as the Highway Authority.
As the Highway Authority, we seek to ensure that verges are safe and unobstructed. Safe and unobstructed verges are particularly important at road junctions where clear visibility for motorists and pedestrians is crucial.
Our Grounds Maintenance team undertakes grass cutting throughout the growing season. Funding for this is allocated each year through the highways maintenance budget.
Some grass verges have rare or endangered species of flora and fauna. In these instances, the grass cutting programme is tailored to minimise the impact on local wildlife.
