Sheltered accommodation
We have 36 sheltered schemes (1433 properties), helping older people to live independently. This housing is a mix of flats, bungalows, and one extra-care scheme.
All schemes benefit from communal lounges, where our sheltered scheme officers support a programme of activities to help tackle social isolation and encourage a sense of community.

East Lea is in the outer west of Gateshead in Winlaton, neighbouring South Lea. It is close to Blaydon and Rowlands Gill.

McErlane Square is in the east of Gateshead in Pelaw. It is close to Pelaw high street, which has a large supermarket, doctors surgery, and post office.

Mosspool is in the outer west of Gateshead in Winlaton. There are bus links to Gateshead town centre and Blaydon bus station, which has a train station nearby.

Southwood Crescent is in the outer west of Gateshead in Rowlands Gill close to Chopwell and Highfield. There are bus links to Gateshead and Blaydon bus station.

Wood Green is in east Gateshead, close to Bill Quay Farm on the banks of the River Tyne and a local nature reserve. There are some lovely walks nearby.
Angel Court is in Harlow Green, Gateshead, with spectacular views of the Angel of the North. Wrekenton High St, with a range of shops, is a short journey away.

Bensham Court is in central Gateshead, where there is a range of shopping facilities, a medical centre, and a post office.

Birtley A Unit is in the south of Gateshead. Birtley high street is a short distance away, with amenities including shops, a library, and a large supermarket.

Kateregina is in a lovely area of Birtley between Grove Park and Lord Lawson of Beamish Academy. Birtley high street is a ten-minute walk away.

Kays Cottages is in the East of Gateshead in Windy Nook. There are good transport links to Gateshead centre and Newcastle, and it is close to the QE Hospital.
