Birtley A Unit is situated in the south of Gateshead in Birtley. Birtley high street is a short distance away, with local amenities including shops, a library, and a large supermarket. Team Valley Trading Estate is also close by with many shopping units. There are good bus transport links to Gateshead, Chester-le-Street and Durham in this area.  

The scheme consists of 16 one-bed flats and four two-bed flats, each containing Tunstall emergency care units with pull cords and pendants. These are technology solutions that can help you to manage many risks around the home, and alert caregivers in an emergency. The building has a fob entry system for security and there is a Sheltered Scheme Officer on site Monday to Thursday between 8.30am and 5pm and Fridays 8.30am to 4.30pm providing support and advice to residents.  

Within the scheme there is a communal laundry room and a communal lounge that runs an activity schedule where residents come together to relax and socialise.
