Carers Trust Tyne and Wear
The Care Service at Carers Trust Tyne and Wear can offer carers some time away from their caring role by providing a regular short break. Trained Carer Support Workers can take over most aspects of a carer's role so that they can enjoy time for themselves.
Examples of support
Carer Support Workers can support the person with care needs with:
- getting up and going to bed
- washing and personal grooming
- bathing
- getting to and from / or using the toilet
- personal hygiene
- dressing and undressing
- taking prescribed medication
- assistance to access food and fluids
- assistance with the management of incontinence
- undertaking their own shopping, bill paying or other transactions
- getting out into the community
- accessing a course or meeting (this could include supporting a person with care needs to research the options available to them)
- company
This list is not exhaustive and carers can request assistance with other tasks. Carers Trust Tyne and Wear do not carry out cleaning or tasks that would be considered nursing, such as changing dressings or inserting catheters.

Contact Adult Social Care
There are many ways to contact the adult social care team, both online and over the phone.
We encourage people who can contact us online to do so, as it helps to free up phone lines for emergencies or for those who don't have access to or the skills to use computers.
