The Carer's Passport at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Gateshead
You may be eligible for the Carer's Passport if you are a carer for somebody who has been admitted to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital and they require support due to:
- dementia/delirium or other cognitive impairment
- having a diagnosed learning disability
- requiring a high level of care (for example assistance is required with eating and drinking)
- being a person you feel would benefit from having a carer present, such as those experiencing anxiety or needing reassurance in an unfamiliar setting
- being critically unwell or at the end of life
The Carer's Passport will identify the carer as the person's main carer and will enable you to visit outside of normal visiting hours at the discretion of the ward manager. Please note that this is to be initially discussed when the passport is provided.
You can present the pass at 'The Hub' main canteen and cafes around the hospital and will receive a 40% concession for food and drinks.
Carers who are eligible for the Carer's Passport will also receive free parking when visiting the person who is admitted to hospital.
For more information, please ask any professional on the hospital ward about the Carer's Passport.
