Statutory nuisances
Statutory nuisances can include emissions of noise, smoke, fumes, gases, dust, steam and smell that affects somebody's use and enjoyment of their home and property.
We can investigate and, if appropriate, to take formal action in the event of justified complaints of statutory nuisance.
If a statutory nuisance is established we can issue a legal notice (an abatement notice) on whoever is responsible, telling them that they are committing an offence if they ignore the notice. If someone breaks the rules of an abatement order and carries on with the nuisance, they will be guilty of an offence and can be fined.
We can also investigate issues with noisy neighbours from private homeowners. If you are a council tenant you will need to contact the Council's housing team.
