Local elections

Gateshead has 66 councillors, three representing each of the 22 wards in the borough. At a local election one seat in every ward is contested. Each councillor must stand for re-election after four years' service. 

Election of Councillors for the ward listed below

1. Nomination papers must be delivered to the Returning Officer, Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH on any day from the date of this notice, on Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (excluding bank holidays) but no later than 4pm on Thursday, 15 August 2024.

2. Nomination papers may be obtained from the offices of the Returning Officer, Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH, during the times stated above. 

3. If any election is contested the poll will take place on Thursday, 12 September 2024. 

4. Applications to register to vote must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by midnight on Tuesday 27 August 2024. Applications can be made online https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote (opens new window)

5. Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH by 5pm on Wednesday, 28 August 2024. 6. Applications for a Voter Authority Certificate or an Anonymous Elector's Document valid for this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer by 5pm on Wednesday 4 September 2024. 8. Applications to vote by emergency proxy at this election must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Civic Centre, Regent Street, Gateshead, NE8 1HH by 5pm on Thursday, 12 September 2024
