A general election will take place onThursday 12 December 2019

Register to vote

You need to be on the electoral register to vote. The easiest way for you to register to vote is on the gov.uk website. You will need to provide your details to register, including your national insurance number and date of birth.

The last day to register to vote in this year's general (parliamentary) election is Tuesday 26 November.

If you have someone registered at your address but they no longer live there, you need to contact us so we can update the register.

Voting in the general election

To vote in the UK general election you must be:

  • registered to vote
  • aged 18 or over
  • a British citizen, a qualifying Commonwealth citizen or a citizen of the Republic of Ireland
  • not subject to any legal incapacity to vote (for example, if you are in prison)

The last day to register to vote is Tuesday 26 November 2019.

Gateshead constituencies

Gateshead is divided into three constituencies - Gateshead, Blaydon and Jarrow. Each is represented by one MP.

General (parliamentary) elections are held within 5 years of the last election. They can be called at any time by the government in power.
