Gateshead event to showcase support for young people with SEND
A free event to showcase the support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their families will be held in Gateshead this Wednesday (19 June).
The Gateshead SEND Local Offer is the range of support offered locally by the council, the North Cumbria and North East Integrated Care Board (ICB) and partners for Gateshead young people aged 0-25 with SEND.
The council's first SEND Futures event is presented with Gateshead Council Learning and Skills and will be an in-person Local Offer marketplace where professionals, parents, carers, and people with SEND can find out about:
- gaining valuable employment
- training and qualifications
- support groups and activities
- health and wellbeing advice
- transport and accessibility support
Attending organisations will also include partners from across the local health, education, social care and transport sectors.
The event will be held at The Fed, Dunston, NE11 9JR from 9.30am until 1pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024.
Helen Fergusson, Strategic Director for Children's Social Care and Lifelong Learning, said: "We're proud to host our first Gateshead SEND Futures event to bring the range of support on offer to our young people with SEND and their families. We know that many parents and carers of children and young people with SEND aren't sure who to turn to for support, which is why it's so important that we make our Local Offer as visible as possible. By joining us at the event, you can find out about everything available to you from the council and our partners, from gaining valuable qualifications, training and employment in the borough to the activities and groups available to develop confidence and independence."
For more information on the event, please contact SENDFutures@Gateshead.Gov.UK or visit the Gateshead SEND Local Offer website.
