Beats, Meets and Eats: A Summer of Fun at Baltic Square

BalticSF

Gateshead Council is delighted to launch Beats, Meets and Eats - an exciting, free programme of summer-long events set to energise Baltic Square, right beside the iconic Gateshead Millennium Bridge. This vibrant series of activities will bring music, creativity and community spirit to the banks of the River Tyne from 26 July through to 28 September.

Throughout the summer, visitors can enjoy a diverse line-up of live music, street performers, dance workshops, pop-up entertainment, arts and crafts and plenty of surprises along the way. With a dedicated stage and a welcoming atmosphere, Baltic Square is set to become a must-visit destination for families, friends, couples and tourists alike.

A range of local talent and businesses will take centre stage, including Station East, North East Dance Project, and Events North East, offering entertainment, flavour and flair to the heart of Gateshead.

Whether relaxing in the sunshine, discovering local culture, or enjoying time with family and friends, Beats, Meets and Eats offers something for everyone, from dance workshops and themed live music to street food, market stalls and character appearances.

The programme is being delivered by Gateshead Council, in collaboration with local businesses and organisations, made possible with funding from North East Mayor Kim McGuinness and the North East Combined Authority. The programme builds on the council's Creative Spaces strategy by supporting and funding grassroots and community led events, which aims to invest in local culture, animate public spaces, and create more opportunities across the borough for people to connect in meaningful and enjoyable ways.

As well as enjoying the festival atmosphere, visitors are encouraged to explore nearby local businesses in the Railway Quarter or take in the views from the Gateshead Millennium Bridge. Visitors can also swing by the internationally renowned BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, which from 23 Jul - 29 Aug will be hosting 'Baltic's Big Summer', a world where imagination meets play for the whole family.

Councillor Angela Douglas, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Tourism at Gateshead Council, said:

"This is all about helping people love where they live. We want Gateshead residents - and visitors from near and far - to feel proud of this place and enjoy spending time together along the river this summer."

A full schedule of activities will be released shortly and available here.
