Remembrance Day Services 2025

Field of Remembrance

Gateshead's Saltwell Park will have the honour of hosting the Field of Remembrance, the only event of its kind in the whole of Northern England.

The dedication ceremony will take place on Saturday 1 November 2025 at 10.40am. Everyone is welcome to attend. Crosses will be available to purchase from Saltwell Towers and the Civic Centre reception from Friday 24 October.

Remembrance services

A number of events are taking place across the borough to mark Remembrance Day.

Friday 7 November 2025

Birtley

The Fellowship of the Service will hold a short wreath-laying ceremony. Assemble at Birtley Cenotaph for 6.45pm.

Crookhill / Stargate

Assemble at 10.30am at Crookhill School to walk with school classes to the War Memorial for a wreath-laying ceremony and prayers.

Greenside

A short service will take place at the war memorial at 11am. The official service will take place on Sunday 9 November

Sunday 9 November 2025

Gateshead

The Service will commence at 10.45am; it is requested that those present assemble at the Cenotaph, Prince Consort Road, no later than 10.40am.

It is anticipated that the Service will last for half an hour and will include a wreath-laying ceremony.

There will be a march-past after the service outside the Central Library, Prince Consort Road where the Mayor, Deputy Mayor of Gateshead and Deputy Lieutenant of Tyne and Wear will take the salute.

Birtley

The parade will leave the Birtley Community Centre, Ravensworth Road at approximately 10.30am and proceed to the Birtley Cenotaph for 10.45am for a short Remembrance service. There will be a two minute silence followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.

Blaydon

10.15am service at St Cuthbert's Church, followed by a service at the War Memorial at 12noon.

Chopwell

A Remembrance Service and wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Cenotaph. Assemble 10.45am for 11am.

Clara Vale

Assemble at the War Memorial at 10.45am for 11am for a wreath-laying ceremony.

Dunston

Assemble at St Nicholas Church at 10am for a service followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial, Dunston at 11am. Refreshments will be served afterwards in Church Hall.

Felling

Garden of Remembrance, Felling at 10.45am for a short service and wreath laying ceremony at 11am (if wet, please make way to St Mary's Church at Heworth).

Please note if the weather is inclement the service will be held in St Mary's Church.

Greenside

A service will begin at 10.45am at the war memorial, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.

High Spen

A Communion service will begin at St Patricks Church at 9am. It will move from the church to the War Memorial for an Act of Remembrance which will begin at 10am.

Kibblesworth

A short wreath laying ceremony will commence at 10.45am at the War Memorial, Grange Terrace. Refreshments will be provided afterwards in the Millennium Centre, Grange Terrace.

Marley Hill

Assemble at St Cuthbert's Church, Marley Hill, a Remembrance service combined with Methodists, at 10.15am for an Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying.

Rowlands Gill

Service will take place at St Barnabas at 10.45am, and Strathmore Road Methodist Church at 10.45am, followed by a Service of Remembrance at the War Memorial at 12noon.

Ryton

Parish Communion will be held at Holy Cross at 10am. This will be followed by an Act of Remembrance and wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial at 11am. (small walk from Holy Cross Church to memorial on Station Bank)

Swalwell

Service at the Holy Trinity Church, Hexham Old Road at 9am. This will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at 10am.

Winlaton

A service of Holy Communion will take place at St Paul's Church at 9.45am, followed by an short wreath laying service and Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at 10.45am.

Whickham

Assemble at The Square, Front Street, Whickham at 10.15am and proceed to the War Memorial where there will be a wreath-laying ceremony at 10.45am. This will be followed by a service in St Mary's Church, Whickham.

Gateshead - Saltwell Park

A Service of Remembrance organised by the Durham Light Infantry Association will commence at 10.45am at the DLI Memorial.

Low Fell

A Remembrance service will begin at 10.45am at the Boer War Memorial, Durham Road Low Fell, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.
