Successful eviction to tackle anti-social behaviour
We have acted decisively to protect local residents from ongoing nuisance and distress caused by one tenant's persistent anti-social behaviour.
Following repeated breaches of tenancy conditions and numerous complaints from neighbours, we have successfully secured a possession order for a property in Yetholm Road, Teams, occupied by Mr Dylan Bilborough.
Despite being given multiple opportunities to change his behaviour, including offers of support to rehome several dogs being kept at the property in breach of the tenancy agreement, the tenant failed to act. Persistent noise from barking dogs, poor property conditions, and failure to maintain the garden area led to significant disruption for nearby residents.
Working together, our housing and legal teams carried out regular monitoring visits, gathering evidence, and engaged with affected residents to make sure their concerns were addressed. Legal proceedings were initiated after the tenant failed to comply with formal warnings and notices.
An eviction has successfully carried out today, 15 October, following a court order from Gateshead County Court requiring the tenant to give up possession of the property.
Councillor Chris Buckley, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:
"This case demonstrates our commitment to protecting residents and ensuring everyone can feel safe and comfortable in their own community. We took action to minimise disruption for neighbours and to uphold the standards expected of all our tenants. Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Gateshead, and we will always take firm action where necessary to protect our communities."
