Ambitious plans for Gateshead's future

Corporate Plan

Regeneration, the local environment, housing and support for those who need it most are priorities being discussed by Council this week to ensure the services we provide focus on what matters most to local people.

Our updated corporate plan, which outlines the steps we will take to deliver our priorities for Gateshead, responds to emerging challenges and will ensure the ongoing delivery of good-quality services for the people of Gateshead.

Actions identified include demolition of the flyover, improving our repairs service for tenants, investing £2.5m to make homes across Gateshead more energy efficient, improving access to high-quality pre-school childcare provision and investing in our local environment to make it better for our communities.

Councillor Martin Gannon, Leader of the Council, said: "We have ambitious plans for the future of Gateshead and agreeing our priorities now will help us to deliver in the short, medium and long term. We are listening to the views of our residents to ensure that our corporate plan meets their needs. Our focus over the next five years will show significant investment in our economy and infrastructure to support future generations whilst also improving the overall quality of life for Gateshead residents, building a greener, stronger and more prosperous borough for all."

Our corporate plan, 'the Strength of Gateshead is the people of Gateshead', outlines how we will support our vision to make Gateshead a place where everyone thrives. It continues to be based on five key pledges:

  • People Gateshead - putting people and families at the heart of everything we do.
  • Fair Gateshead - tackling inequalities so people have a fair chance.
  • Communities Gateshead - supporting our communities to support themselves and each other.
  • Prosperous Gateshead - investing in our economy to provide sustainable opportunities for employment, innovation, and growth.
  • Future Gateshead - working together and fighting for a better future for Gateshead.
