Ready for more road repairs
A new piece of equipment has arrived in Gateshead and will be a game-changer for pothole repairs across the borough.
The Pothole Pro machine will ensure repairs are quicker, longer lasting and more cost effective than more traditional methods. The machine will be used alongside the current repair programme to ensure that potholes reported by residents can be resolved as quickly as possible.
Councillor John McElroy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said:
"This is a really exciting investment for us as we know it will make a huge difference to the condition of our roads and the speed that we can respond to any issues reported.
"Since April our crews have fixed 2,015m2 of road but we want to do more. The Pothole pro is one way for us to do that. I'm looking forward to residents seeing the difference this will make over the coming months and we will share updates on the benefits it brings to our local communities."
The Pothole Pro is a 3 in 1 machine which cuts, crops and cleans, reducing the need for additional specialist equipment and manpower. A pothole repaired this way will typically be completed within 8 minutes, four times quicker than traditional repair methods and at half the cost.
