Following valuable feedback from the Town Centre Survey, where residents and local businesses highlighted the need to "improve the condition of streets and spaces," Gateshead Council been working hard over the last nine months to respond.

From removing graffiti across the Interchange and High Level Bridge and commissioning public art, to supporting the Friends of Gateshead Town centre group to supply new planters to the businesses on the high street - progress is well underway.

Now Gateshead Council are inviting the community to join the effort. Activities during the Town Centre Summer Help Out will include painting, planting and litter picking - simple actions that help transform shared spaces and foster pride.

Councillor Angela Douglas, Cabinet Member for Culture, Sport and Tourism, said:

"This isn't just about tidying up, it's about creating a cleaner and more enjoyable environment for everyone who lives, works and visits Gateshead Town Centre. These are vital steps in transforming the look and feel of our town centre, and they set the stage for even more exciting regeneration work to come. We want the community to be at the heart of that change - starting by working together to restore pride in our public spaces."

Local residents, businesses and community groups can be part of something positive this summer. Join Gateshead Council on 25 and 26 July, from 10am to 2pm, for the Town Centre Summer Help Out - a two-day community clean-up event in Gateshead Town Centre.
