Love Parks Week: Time to celebrate Gateshead's green spaces
With over 120 fantastic parks across the borough, there's always somewhere new to explore, relax or enjoy the fresh air.
We're proud to share that several of our parks have recently received Green Flag Awards, recognising them as some of the best-managed green spaces in the country. On top of that, we've been investing in new play equipment across the borough - including exciting updates at Calderwood Crescent in Harlow Green, South Terrace in Chopwell and Cuthbert Terrace in Marley Hill.
This week is also about recognising the people who make our parks great. From council staff who maintain paths, empty bins, plant and care for green spaces, to those who keep equipment safe and organise community activities, as well as the volunteers who give their time and energy all year round.
Whether you're heading out for a solo run, a walk with your dog or planning a day out with the family, there's something for everyone in Gateshead's parks.
Councillor John McElroy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said:
"Our parks are a valuable reminder of the importance of our local environment. They give people the chance to connect with nature, stay active and appreciate the green spaces on their doorstep. Love Parks Week is a great time to recognise how lucky we are to have them - and to thank the staff and volunteers who make them such welcoming places."
Take some time this summer to get outside, explore your local park and see what makes our green spaces so special.
