Share your views on Gateshead's Health and Wellbeing Strategy
We want to hear your thoughts on a partnership strategy which identifies the priorities to support you to live well in Gateshead.
Our Health and Wellbeing Board recognise that our health and wellbeing is shaped by the world around us. Building a healthy society is like constructing a strong and sturdy building; we need the right building blocks in place. Building blocks like good jobs, safe homes and neighbourhoods, enough money to meet every day needs, good quality and easy-to-access services, supportive friends and families and more.
The current Health and Wellbeing Strategy was agreed in early 2020. Since then, we have experienced significant social and economic challenges, such as the rising cost of living, which have impacted the health and wellbeing of people in Gateshead.
We're not re-writing the Health and Wellbeing Strategy from scratch - we're updating it to include two new principles from the Marmot framework, which aims to inform policies and strategies to provide healthier communities across the UK, and making sure it still fits today's needs and challenges.
The new principles are:
- tackling racism and discrimination and their outcomes
- pursuing environmental sustainability and health equity together
The Health and Wellbeing Board has agreed to add these and publish an updated Health and Wellbeing Strategy.

Your feedback in this consultation will help us update to the strategy, which will be published in Spring 2026, and its action plan which will be developed after the updates have been agreed.
While we greatly value all the feedback received, not every comment or suggestion will appear directly in the final strategy. This is because the strategy is designed to be high-level and long-term in focus, setting out broad priorities rather than detailing every specific issue. However, all feedback helps shape our understanding and may inform future work or be shared with relevant partners.
