Council Tax appeals

You can appeal to us if you disagree with a decision we have made about any of the following:

To appeal, you must tell us in writing why you disagree with our decision. We will consider your reasons and write back to you within two months. If we do not agree with you we will tell you why.

If you are still unhappy you can appeal to Valuation Tribunal Service (opens new window).

You can also appeal if you think a decision we have made about your Council Tax Support is wrong.

If you think the band of your property is wrong please contact the Valuation Office Agency (opens new window).

Removing your property from banding

The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) could remove the Council Tax band altogether if your property is derelict and unfit for occupation, or it is being reconstructed into a different type of property. This means that no Council Tax would be paid until your property is made habitable. You will need to contact the VOA directly to make a claim.

If you are successful we will be informed by the VOA, your account will be updated, and we will issue a revised bill.

The VOA cannot remove the property from banding just because it is in poor repair, it is being repaired, or it is empty and awaiting repair.

You can find out more about properties in disrepair on GOV.UK (opens new window).
