Single person discount

Your Council Tax bill is based on at least two adults, aged over 18 years old, living in a property regardless of the relationship.

To apply for the discount you must have already registered with us to pay Council Tax in Gateshead.

If your circumstances have changed the amount of Council Tax you pay could be affected.

Before you begin, you will need your Council Tax account number to hand.

If you're the only person over 18 years old in your home, you may be entitled to claim a 25% reduction in your Council Tax bill.

Cancel a single person discount

You will no longer be entitled to a single person discount if:

• a younger occupant has turned 18 years old (regardless of the relationship to the Council Tax payer)
• someone else over 18 years old has moved into your home
• an occupant is no longer entitled to a disregard 

However, you may be entitled to another Council Tax discount.
