Grant funding opportunity for Gateshead's local Food Network opens for second round
This winter, the cost-of-living crisis will have a significant impact on our residents. These unprecedented times will force many people to make difficult decisions, and the demand for help from our community partners will see a sharp increase.
We recognise that many of our residents will be turning to our local Food Network for support as the cost of groceries is at an all time high. Our local Food Network continues to do an outstanding job for our communities, but it is becoming harder for people to donate, which is causing a strain on the support they can provide.
A small grant funding opportunity for our local Food Network has been announced, with organisations being awarded up to £2500 to help them with resources and day to day functioning. This grant is from the Household Support Fund, which is provided by DWP to help us support our most vulnerable households.
The closing date for applications is 20 January 2023.

Deputy leader of the Council, Councillor Catherine Donovan recognises the importance of having our local Food Network during this time.
"Our food partners across Gateshead are doing a wonderful job and they are absolutely vital to our community at this time. It's important that we help them in any way we can so they can continue their important work and keep families and residents fed this winter."
"I would urge our food partners to apply for the grant as soon as possible, to avoid the chance of missing out."
We would like to thank our residents for their continued support and donations for the Food Network during this difficult time. Community spirit continues to make a real difference and provide people who are struggling with hope.
