Domestic Abuse Partnership
In 2021, Gateshead Domestic Abuse Partnership was established to support Gateshead Council to enact its statutory duties under the GOV.UK - Domestic Abuse Act 2021 (opens new window) by:
- assisting in the development of a local domestic abuse needs assessment and a multi-agency strategy to improve our response to domestic abuse in Gateshead
- identifying and addressing gaps in support within community-based services and safe accommodation, to improve outcomes for victim-survivors of domestic abuse
Gateshead Domestic Abuse Partnership drives Gateshead's strategic response to domestic abuse, ensuring local systems are working to support victim/survivors, prevent harm to our children and young people, and hold perpetrators to account for their behaviour.

Domestic Abuse Strategy 2025-28
A new multi-agency strategy has been agreed by the Domestic Abuse Partnership Board to tackle domestic abuse in Gateshead.
This strategy focuses on moving towards a prevention model of domestic abuse, placing an added emphasis on early intervention, preventing harm to children and young people, and tackling perpetrators to prevent further harm to victim/survivors of domestic abuse.
The structure of this strategy follows the national Tackling Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Strategy and the Northumbria PCC's VAWG Strategy, based on four strategic aims:
- Prioritising prevention
