Living in Gateshead

Angel of the North
Gateshead is based on the south banks of the River Tyne, only 15 minutes from Newcastle, and has strong transport links (road, rail and cycle) and a rich cultural arts scene.

It has a fabulous arts and culture scene and since 1986, a Public Art Programme has been established in Gateshead which has since gained national and international recognition.  Read more about public art in Gateshead

The Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art is a converted flour mill, the architectural design was devised by Dominic Williams of Ellis Williams Architects, who won a competition to design the new contemporary arts centre in 1994. It has an array of incredible events, educational programmes and ever-changing exhibitions. Gateshead is also home to the Glasshouse International Centre for Music (formerly known as The Sage Gateshead).

It really is the best of both worlds: A town with affordable housing and good schools which boasts a thriving social scene and stunning landscape on the doorstep. If you want to escape the bustle of the town, there is a plethora of beautiful countryside to explore, including country parks and National Trust properties.

We are proud of our wonderful, thriving town and our passion filters through to every aspect of living here. Living and working in Gateshead.
