Crawcrook Library reopening next week

Crawcrook library

Crawcrook Library will reopen on Thursday 4 April with a fresh new look.

Since the building closed for refurbishment in January, its lighting, decoration and internal fittings have been upgraded to create improved space for community activities and book borrowing.

Gateshead's Director of Public Health Alice Wiseman said:

"The way that local people use our facilities is continuing to evolve and having recently reviewed our libraries service, we understand the importance of providing modern, flexible and welcoming spaces at the heart of our communities.

Reading is proven to offer health benefits for people at all stages of their lives, so providing free access to a wide range of reading material for all ages remains an integral part of our service. However, Gateshead Libraries offer much more than books. There's a busy and varied programme of events and activities for both adults and children, whether they're interested in getting creative, learning something new or simply connecting with others."

Pelaw Library is also currently closed for refurbishment and expected to reopen within the next few weeks. Until then, Hertfordshire House Community Centre and Gardens CIO is playing host to Rhymetime (10-10.30am on Mondays) and offering "grab and go" bags featuring a selection of books by genre, available to collect between 11am and midday on Mondays.

Alice continued:

"The refurbishment work at Crawcrook and Pelaw libraries will ensure that both buildings can continue to be warm, comfortable spaces where everyone's welcome to come together and enjoy a range of facilities, activities and services that support their wellbeing. We look forward to welcoming you back to your new look libraries!"
