Safeguarding Adults Review Interactive Workshop

Aim: The aim of this interactive workshop is to examine learning from Safeguarding Adults Reviews. These sessions will run on a quarterly basis looking at different case studies.

Catherine Hardman - SAB Business Manager

Catherine Hardman is the Gateshead Safeguarding Adults Board Business Managers, she has over 25 years' experience working in local government predominantly in work force development, supporting the development of the social care workforce.  This has afforded her the opportunity to work with people right across the social care workforce and to build a strong working knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures.  In her role as SAB Business Manager she ensures the SAB meets its statutory responsibilities in ensuring Safeguarding Adult Reviews are given correct oversight, learning is cascaded, practice is improved and change is effected.

Joanne Thompson - Principal Social Worker

Jo Thompson qualified as a Social Worker in 2002 and has 21 years experience of working with adults with complex lives.   Many of those years of practice were in an integrated service with Health colleagues working with adults with severe and enduring psychosis.  Jo is an experienced in assessment and working with risk, in 2004 she qualified as an Approved Mental Health Professional  and continues to practice.  In 2020 Jo became the Principal Social Worker for Adults, Gateshead Council, this is a statutory role with key responsibilities defined in the Care Act (2014) including:

  • Lead practice that recognises the strengths of individuals and our communities, ensuring the person requiring support is at the centre of all decision-making
  • Lead on learnings from best practice to be shared across the service and partner agencies
  • Lead in disseminating learning from Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SARs) to both managers and practitioners
