Roads in Gateshead town centre and the surrounding area, including river crossings, are expected to be very busy this weekend.
The Tyne Tunnels operator TT2 is closing the northbound tunnel for maintenance from 10pm on Friday 3 December until 4am on Monday 6 December. Roadworks are also in place on the A1 around Newcastle and Gateshead as widening work continues.
Both NUFC and SAFC have home matches at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, and Newcastle city centre and the Metrocentre are likely to be busy with Christmas shoppers.
A Christmas market will also be operating on the Newcastle quayside all day on Saturdays and Sundays for the next three weekends - 4&5, 11&12, and 18&19 December.
