Award criteria

Eligibility criteria

  • nominations (except in the case of the Lifetime Achievement Award) must be based on activities that have taken place since 18 January 2019
  • nominated people or organisations must have had a positive impact on people living and working in Gateshead
  • nominated community groups must be not for profit organisations
  • nominated individuals must volunteer or care for others in Gateshead
  • individuals nominated for volunteer or carer of the year must not be paid for their role
  • individuals nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award should have served their community for 20 years or more
  • current or former Gateshead councillors cannot be nominated
  • self-nominations will not be accepted

Judging criteria

  • all nominations are judged on how the person, organisation or project has:
    • improved the local community
    • positively affected people living and working in Gateshead
    • inspired others to undertake positive activities
  • the judging panel will shortlist 3 nominees in each category (except the Lifetime Achievement Award)
  • the winners for each category (except the Lifetime Achievement Award) will be voted for by the public
  • the judging panel will choose up to 3 winners for the Lifetime Achievement Award
