Awards criteria

Eligibility criteria

  • nominations (except in the case of the Lifetime Achievement Award) must be based on activities that have taken place since Saturday 4 March 2023
  • nominated people or organisations must have had a positive impact on people living and working in Gateshead
  • nominated community groups must be not for profit organisations
  • nominated individuals must volunteer or care for others in Gateshead
  • individuals nominated for volunteer or carer of the year must not be paid for their role
  • individuals nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award should have served their community for 20 years or more
  • current or former Gateshead councillors cannot be nominated
  • self-nominations will not be accepted

Judging criteria

  • all nominations are judged on how the person, organisation or project has:
    • improved the local community
    • positively affected people living and working in Gateshead
    • inspired others to undertake positive activities
  • unless there are exceptional circumstances, the judging panel will shortlist 3 nominees in each category (except the Lifetime Achievement Award)
  • the winners for each category (except the Lifetime Achievement Award) will be voted for by the public, unless only one nominee is shortlisted and the panel feel the nomination is strong enough to win the category
  • unless there are exceptional circumstances, the judging panel will choose up to 3 winners for the Lifetime Achievement Award
