Filming and photography in Gateshead

Gateshead Council welcomes film, television and photographic companies who wish to film/photograph in and around the borough of Gateshead.  

If you are interested in featuring Gateshead in your next production please contact the communications team for an informal discussion. In many cases, permission can be granted by phone.

Small crews wishing to film 'general views' or take still photographs, for example, images of the Angel of the North and Gateshead Quayside, do not need permission to film providing they adhere to our filming protocol  Filming protocol guidance (PDF) [154KB] (opens new window)

For larger or more complex shoots, drone filming, or to bring any equipment on to land which is owned by Gateshead Council, you will be asked to fill in our Application to Film form. Please note, a minimum of two weeks' notice should be given, road closures require at least five weeks' notice. 

In all cases anyone wishing to film or take still photography in Gateshead should read and adhere to our  Filming protocol guidance (PDF) [154KB] (opens new window) .
