Gateshead Access to Employment Service (GATES)

Gateshead Access to Employment Service (GATES) helps people with disabilities that require long term supervision or support, obtain work.

We offer, free of charge, a complete range of recruitment and training packages. This is backed by highly skilled staff who specialise in assisting people with disabilities gain, and maintain, employment.

What can GATES offer you as an employer?

• An individually tailored training package for your employee
• The option of on the job training to be provided by GATES' experienced and skilled trainers
• On-going support once the training is completed
• All services provided free of charge

We will arrange an initial consultation with your organisation to answer any questions and to discuss any prospective employment opportunities.

Once a job has been identified our trainer will assess the skills needed to carry out the task(s).

All of our job seekers have undergone vocational profiling and training and are 'work ready'. Their employment support worker has detailed knowledge of their skills and abilities and will use this to match them up with your vacancy.

The new employee will work with the full support of their employment support worker either on site or in an advisory capacity. The employment support worker takes responsibility for training the new employee to the standard required by your organisation. We will offer this training as long as required.

Once the training period is complete we will agree an employment support plan, identifying an agreed level of contact. This will be regularly reviewed and additional training given if required. We guarantee any support needed for the entire term of the individual's employment.

What does this cost?

The service we provide is free of charge. We do, however, ask that you pay the employee the going rate for the job that they will be doing within your company.
