Speech, Language and Therapy Service

The Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) service provides comprehensive services for children and young people (CYP) in Gateshead, who have difficulties with speech, language and communication (SLC) and/or eating, drinking or swallowing (EDS) difficulties.

Their role includes assessment, diagnosis and therapeutic intervention of difficulties in these areas. Therapy may include the provision of advice and programmes to parents, carers and education staff, individual or group therapy or the provision of an alternative means of communication.

This information resource tells you all about speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). It has lots of information about finding out about SLCN, the issues that can be caused by SLCN and places that you can go to for help and information.

In the document you will find information about difficulties in children and young people of all ages, from preschool through to young adulthood. It describes the different ways that you and your child can be affected by SLCN, and what you can do to help.
