Programme overview

On this course you will get an opportunity to draft a pattern and make a toile using your own body measurements. You will learn how to read and use symbols in pattern cutting as well learning how to measure your own body correctly. You will be making a toile to check the fitting, adjust if necessary and then go on to make your final garment.

Programme content

You will take your own measurements and follow step-by-step instructions to draft a bodice block. You will trace a working pattern and sew a toile to test the fit of your pattern. You will make up the full-scale pattern from calico so you can realise the 2D pattern to 3D. You will explore basic fitting techniques to fit your toile and transfer the information back to your working pattern after the fitting. Lay and cut the pattern correctly. Construct your garment with a professional looking finish. Basic sewing skills are essential. You will then complete a master pattern from which you can create other designs.
