Course overview
Do you want to learn how to help your child learn to read? This phonics course aims to give you an overview of the phonics programme taught at your child's school, giving you an understanding of how you can support your child at different stages of their phonics development. During the sessions you will find out about the phonics programme including the terms and strategies used during lessons. Your child will join you for some of the session and you will make and use resources together which can be taken home. This course provides a relaxing and enjoyable environment with the opportunity to speak to and share ideas with other parents in school.
Course content
On this course, you will find out the order in which your child is introduced to each sound and the words they will be able to sound out, read and spell at each stage of development. You will also find out about how tricky words are introduced to your child and how you can support with this at home. You will find out about the terminology and strategies used during phonics sessions so you feel confident to support your child at home. You will also make a range of resources which will support your child's learning at home.
Who this course is for
Parents/carers and relatives of school age children.
Materials and equipment
None required.
Assessment
Your tutor will assess your work and photograph the things you have made as evidence of your hard work. You will work on targets together to show your learning over the course.
