NHS Melissa bus heading to Gateshead this summer
Free health and wellbeing advice is being made more accessible with a tour of pop-up events in Gateshead this summer.
Residents can catch the NHS 'Melissa' bus at several locations in Gateshead to speak to local health and wellbeing services for information, support and advice, as well as find out more about the council's Community Led Support group, People's Voice, on 31 July.
Organisations will vary at each event but will include services from across the health and voluntary sectors. These include:
- Gateshead Sexual Health Service
- British Liver Trust
- Connected Voice
- Gateshead Recovery Partnership
- Healthworks
- Positive Futures
- Healthwatch Gateshead
- Working Gateshead
- People's Voice*

- 5 August at Baltic Quadrant

Councillor Bernadette Oliphant, cabinet member for Health and Wellbeing at Gateshead Council, said: "We're proud to be working with health and voluntary sector partners to bring accessible health and wellbeing checks to our communities this summer.
"We know that some residents are unsure of where to go for health and wellbeing advice, so being visible in the community with the MELISSA bus is a fantastic way to share information on the support available for residents."
Stephen Cooper, MELISSA Service Lead for NHS England Education North East, said: "The NHSE Faculty of Patient Safety MELISSA bus is proud to support multiple healthcare initiatives over the summer across Gateshead. Everyone is welcome to Get on Board to receive help, advice and support."
