Index of Multiple Deprivation

The Indices of Deprivation 2015 (ID 2015) is the collective name for several separate indices measuring deprivation within all local authority areas in England.  The most well known index, IMD 2015, measures multiple deprivation for each local authority area as a whole and also for smaller areas within each authority known as Lower Layer Super Output Areas (LSOAs).

Gateshead is ranked 73rd out of 326 local authorities in England in the overall IMD 2015, where 1 is the most deprived (rank of average score). Around 23,600 or 12% of Gateshead residents live within the most deprived 10% of LSOAs in England.
