Index of Multiple Deprivation

The Indices of Deprivation 2019 (ID 2019) is the collective name for several separate indices measuring deprivation within all local authority areas in England.  The most well known index, IMD 2019, measures multiple deprivation for each local authority area as a whole and also for smaller areas within each authority known as Lower Layer Super Output Areas (LSOAs).

Gateshead is ranked 47th out of 317 local authorities in England in the overall IMD 2019, where 1 is the most deprived (rank of average score). Around 32,700 or 16% of Gateshead residents live within the most deprived 10% of LSOAs in England.
