The Wheels Project
About
The Wheels Project provide the AQA unit award scheme in three fields, basic car/motorcycle maintenance, construction and hair & beauty to disadvantaged children aged between 12 and 18 years old.
The students will gain recognised certificates/qualifications to take them further with their future. They also incorporate life skills and team building within these units, again to give the students a good start to their future.
They work with children with learning difficulties, behaviour, ADHD, autism, where they work at their pace and required needs.
The Wheels Project understand that every student is unique and different and keep their numbers low to allow them to meet the individual needs.
Suitable ages ranges
The Wheels Project accept children from ages 11 to 18 years old.
Qualifications available
AQA are the awarding body at The Wheels Project and depending on the child's ability they can achieve entry level to level one accreditation.
About the teaching
All training is carried out at in Hebburn.
Students can attend from locations including Gateshead, Newcastle, Sunderland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside and Durham.
Teaching is delivered typically with a ratio of 1 teacher to 4 students.
The provision is open from 9.30am to 2.30pm. Students can attend between 5 to 15 hours per week (between 1 and 3 sessions).
Transport is not provided.
The length of programme can be adapted to what is required for each student.

Cost for sessions are as follows:
- £85 per full day

Contact with schools
Attendance is provided to schools by phone/email daily.
The Wheels Project provide termly reports as well as feedback on praise as and when required. All reports and achievements are sent via email.

Insurance
The Wheels Project have current public liability cover and insurance certificates are displayed.
They also have current employee liability cover.
Safeguarding
The Wheels Project have a compliant safeguarding policy in place which is reviewed yearly.
Pre-employment checks are carried out in line with guidance.
The provision has a designated safeguarding lead and there is regular training for all staff at the provision.
Health and safety
The Wheels Project have a health and safety policy in place with a designated member of staff trained to Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) standard.
They have full risk assessment for the premises and carry out regular fire drills which are recorded.
They have all required first aid equipment in place in line with RIDDOR procedures (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013).
