Ateres High School takes flight with North East Falconry visit

In a thrilling start to the year, Ateres High School in Felling welcomed a truly unique educational experience, thanks to a generous initiative from North East Falconry and Gateshead Exchange. As part of a special offer of a school visits, the event took place in January 2024 and it was nothing short of spectacular.

Glen, a passionate falconer from North East Falconry, brought along a stunning array of birds of prey, captivating over 200 students from Years 7 to 11. The visit transformed a regular school day into an unforgettable adventure, as students not only observed these majestic creatures up close but also had the rare opportunity to hold and interact with them.

The session was designed to be both educational and interactive. Glen introduced each bird, sharing fascinating facts and answering a flurry of curious questions from the eager students. The hands-on experience sparked excitement and wonder, making learning about wildlife and conservation both fun and memorable.

Samuel Rosenthal, Deputy Head of Ateres High School, praised the event:

"Glen from North East Falconry engaged over 200 of our students with a magnificent birds of prey display. Students were able to stroke and hold a range of birds, and significantly gained from the event. We are truly grateful to Gateshead Exchange for their coordination and input."

Glen was equally impressed by the students' enthusiasm:

"The students showed huge enthusiasm during our visit. They had great questions and answers, learning about birds of prey. Students enjoyed being close to our birds and having the opportunity to hold some." 

Thanks to the collaboration between North East Falconry and Gateshead Exchange, this visit not only enriched the school's curriculum but also left a lasting impression on everyone involved.
