Course details
Aim: This workshop session has been developed following the completion of the Thomas SAR (PDF, 549 KB)(opens new window) in 2023. Thomas was 41 years of age when he was found dead in his property in Gateshead in 2021. He had a history of drug abuse and was well known to services in Gateshead including the Police. At the time leading up to his death, there appeared to be a deterioration in Thomas' mental health.

Learning objectives
Participants will:
- Gain an understanding of the key features of the case and of the issues faced by both Thomas and the practitioners supporting him.
- Analyse events leading to Thomas death, identify good practice and areas for development.
- Discuss how we as practitioners could have approached this case to elicit different outcomes.
