Find out more about North East devolution
Gateshead Council is inviting residents and partners to their North East Devolution public consultation event on 28 February.
Following the announcement of a £4.2 billion devolution deal, a public consultation is now under way to give people across the North East a chance to understand how the proposed devolution deal from government could be implemented and have their say.
Residents and partners are invited to a presentation in the Council Chamber at Gateshead Civic Centre on Tuesday 28 February from 5pm. There will also be the opportunity to take part in a question and answer session and fill in the consultation survey. The event will be attended by Councillor Martin Gannon, Leader of the Council, and Sheena Ramsey, Chief Executive.

The Council will also be holding an online event, for those unable to join us on 28 February. The event will take place on Thursday 9 March at 2pm. Book a place
This event is part of a series of North East Devolution Public Consultation Events which will be taking place across the region throughout February and March. The events include:
- Monday 13 February - The Word, South Shields - 4pm
- Wednesday 15 February - St James' Church, Alnwick - 4pm
- Thursday 23 February - Durham County Hall, Durham - 5:30pm
- Wednesday 8 March - The Exchange, North Shields - 6:30pm
- Friday 10 March - City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland - 2:30pm
- Monday 13 March - City Library, Newcastle - 2pm - 3.30pm
The Cabinets of the seven North East local authorities have agreed the terms and process for the 'minded to' devolution deal. The consultation, which runs until 23 March, gives residents and businesses an opportunity to consider and comment on the proposed scheme, centred on the plan that sets out how devolution would be implemented.
As well as multi-billion-pound investment into the region, the deal would see significant powers transferred to the North East from central government.
Residents, businesses, and other stakeholders can give their feedback online or by attending a number of face-to-face and virtual events taking place across the North East.
At the end of the consultation period a report will be brought back to each Cabinet and a summary of the consultation responses and any proposed submissions on behalf of the councils will be sent to the Secretary of State to consider before laying an order in parliament.
