Tribute to Her Majesty, The Queen
It is with great sadness that Gateshead Council has heard the news of the death of Her Majesty, The Queen.
As a mark of respect, the arch of the Gateshead Millennium Bridge will be lit in purple during the period of mourning.
Flags at official buildings in Gateshead have been lowered to half-mast and will remain so until Proclamation Day at 11am, when the flags will be raised and flown at the mast-head, for the official proclamation of the new King from St James's Palace.
These will be returned to half-mast at 3pm the day following Proclamation Day and then flown at half-mast until 8am on the day following the State Funeral.

Books of Condolence that members of the public can sign will be located at locations across Gateshead from Friday 9 September.

- Birtley Library - 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday
- St Mary's Heritage Centre - 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 1pm Saturdays
- Blaydon Leisure Centre - 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 10 to 4pm Saturday and Sunday
- Whickham Library - 9am to 5pm Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and 9am to 1pm Wednesday and Saturday
- Saltwell Towers - 9am to 3pm, Monday to Sunday.

Proclamation Day
The Proclamation will be made at St James' Palace in London at 11am on Saturday (September 10 September). It will then be cascaded, including at 12 noon at the Royal Exchange in the City of London.
Proclamation for Tyne and Wear
The Proclamation for Tyne and Wear will be read on Sunday 11 September by the High Sheriff of Tyne and Wear, from the steps of the Law Courts on Newcastle Quayside. This will take place at around 1pm.
Proclamation for Gateshead
The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Robert Waugh will then read out a local authority level proclamation at the front of the Civic Centre at around 3pm.
Please arrive no later than 2.50pm at the Civic Centre if you would like to join us at the event. Alternatively, the event will be filmed and shared online to share with residents who were not able to attend.

Floral tributes to Her Majesty, The Queen can be left at Saltwell Park's Field of Remembrance during the park's opening hours.
Councillor Martin Gannon, Leader of Gateshead Council said: "It was with immense sadness that we received the news of the death of Her Majesty, The Queen, after 70 years on the throne. The nation has lost a beloved Sovereign and the Royal Family has lost a much loved mother, grandmother and great grandmother."
