The Commissioning team evaluate, plan, and buy social care for the people of Gateshead. This often involves joint commissioning with both internal and external partners.

The team manage relationships with many service providers in Gateshead. They continue to develop joint working with partners to ensure effective commissioning of high quality services and value for money.

A key element of this process is integrated commissioning with health services. We expect increased development in this area in the future working with North East and Cumbria Integrated Care Board (NENC ICB)

The role of commissioning is to:

  • understand the population, their resources, needs, and aspirations, now and in the future.
  • plan with people, and our organisational partners, to make the most effective use of local resources and develop solutions to meet needs and aspirations.
  • create an environment where we, people, and organisational partners can buy and secure the right services, at the right time, at the right price, with the right volumes and the right quality.
  • get the best from services in Gateshead, supporting and challenging services to get better, whilst managing risk and learning for the future.
