New woodland taking shape

Tree planting at Whitehills 2203

We had a tree-mendous session on the site Whitehills Community Woodland site between Whitehills and Beacon Lough on Tuesday morning.

Our staff volunteered to work in pairs, each planting up a 10x10m plot with 25 young trees.

More sessions are planned for all members of the community to join in this Friday 25 and Saturday 26 March, both days starting at 10am.

The project involves planting a total of 14,000 trees but everyone is welcome to contribute as much as they feel able.

If you, your family and your friends want to go along and join in creating this new woodland, our partners Living Woods are supplying the trees and the spades, and you will also get hot (vegetarian) soup provided at lunchtime.

You will need to attend in warm clothes and take something to drink.

To attend either day, you need to register, so please email Jen at volunteering@livingwoodsnortheast.org.uk confirming who is going along. Finalised details and directions will be sent to you.

All ages are welcome, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Whitehills Woodland Creation is a council project, supported by Living Woods North East CIC, part of the new North East Community Forest.
