Join the library

You can join online or come into a library. We may ask for a document with your address. Membership is free and is available to anyone who lives in the North East of England. You can join the library at any age. 

Your new card will have a barcode number which is your username and you will also have a PIN. This will let you borrow up to 20 books when you visit the library. You can also use computer facilities in the library.

You can use BorrowBox for up to 15 eBooks, 15 eMagazines and 8 eAudiobooks at a time.

• BorrowBox has thousands of titles for you to read and we add new titles every week
• we have books for all ages and interests
• you can borrow up to 15 eBooks, 15 eMagazines and 8 eAudiobooks free of charge for 3 weeks
• there are no fines - books are returned automatically at the end of your loan period
• once you've finished reading a book, you can return it before the end of the 3 weeks
• you can renew your eBook, eMagazine or eAudiobook twice and you'll be prompted to do so
• you can subscribe to eMagazines to keep up to date with new issues
• you can reserve a book or title and you'll get it on the date it is returned - maybe earlier if it's returned before the due date      
• there is heavy demand, so please borrow only what you need and return items as soon as you're finished with them
