Join the library Find or renew books

Joining the library is easy, free and you don't need to live in Gateshead. Our members can borrow up to 20 books, six CDs, six DVDs and two language courses from us at any one time.

To join

Just pop into your local library or join online now.

If you choose to collect your library card in one of our branches, then please bring some ID with you such as a driving licence or household bill to verify your home address.

You can join the library at any age. If you are under 16 years of age, we need a parent or carer's signature. If your parents can't come along to the library with you, we will post your ticket to your home address.

You can use our computers if you are aged 8 or over and we need a parent or carer's signature to say you can use them.

Gateshead's volunteer libraries

If you want to join one of Gateshead's libraries run by volunteer associations (Dunston, Felling, Low Fell, Rowlands Gill, Ryton, Whickham or Winlaton Libraries), just call in to the library with proof of your name and address and you will get a library ticket for use at that library. Please note that tickets issued at one of these libraries can't be used elsewhere.
