Additional Restrictions Grants for private hire and hackney carriage drivers
We have allocated Additional Restrictions Grant funding to help hackney carriage and private hire drivers who may have suffered financially as a result of Covid-19.
A one-off payment of £500 is available.
Who can apply
This grant is restricted to Gateshead Council driver licences. It does not cover private hire operator or taxi vehicle licences.
You can apply if you have a hackney carriage or private hire (or joint) driver licence with the council.
We will have contacted you to tell you that you are eligible for this grant. To be eligible you must have held a Gateshead Council taxi driver licence on 31 December 2020.
You may not be eligible for this grant if you held a licence on 31 December 2020 but it has since been revoked or suspended. Applications will be assessed on a case by case basis.
The United Kingdom left the EU on 31 January 2020, nonetheless under the Withdrawal Agreement the State aid rules continue to apply during a transition period, subject to regulation by the EU Commission.
Grant awards must not exceed state aid limits as permitted under the de Minimis and Covid-19 Temporary State Aid Framework. The rules are fully explained in the government state aid guidance. Applicants will be required to declare any other de minimis aid received in the last three years.
How the payment will be made
If your grant claim is accepted, you will receive payment by bank transfer into your account. For this reason it is very important the bank details you supply with your application are up to date.
You may receive payment before you receive notification from us. It will be clearly marked on your bank statement that the payment is from Gateshead Council.
